Studio Calico January 2013 Layouts

I'm super excited to share these layouts - and for the first time ever, I have actually used up an entire Studio Calico kit during the actual month it was sent out. That is quite an accomplishment for me. I love those kits but I do tend to hoard them...

So the January 2013 kit from Studio Calico - Block Party - was a great one. This was the first month I got the Project Life kit in addition to the main kit, and I loved them both. They coordinate perfectly, so I used the supplies interchangeably. To see the Project Life layouts I created with this kit, see this post.

First up, I used the Block Party kit plus my Kiwi Lane designer templates to create this layout.

Since I just used one of the sides of the borders for the layout, I just turned the papers over and used the other sides to create this next layout.

I'm loving the look of the not-quite-completely white background. I might have to start rotating that in with the kraft backgrounds I've been using so much of lately.

I'm also loving these Elf Thickers in Natural. They go with everything. Must find more.

Lastly, I was inspired by one of Shimelle's classes to create a layout with a background of punched circles. A great way to use up scraps. I love how it turned out - I'll definitely be scrap-lifting this again.

Between these three layouts and the Project Life spreads I did this month, I used up 90% of the kit. The rest went into my Project Life bin to intermingle with my other supplies for future spreads. Only about a week until the next Studio Calico kits come out. Can't wait!

Project Life Layouts

For the last 3 months of 2012, I took Becky Higgin's Project Real Life class at Big Picture Classes. I had done Project Life in 2010 and 2011 - and loved those albums. But for 2012, I took a break to do other things for the year. And then I was sucked in to do Project Life again with Becky's class. The class itself was great - a whole new perspective on things to document in our daily lives. The class coincided with our move to Colorado, so it was a great way to detail the changes we were living through.

These Project Life layouts are the same traditional layouts I had done in the past. I used cards from the core kits I had from 2010 and 2011 - seven photos per layout, plus a journaling card for each photo.

After I finished documenting the prompts from the class, I decided to get a little fancier with my Project Life layouts. I started with this one, documenting how we were getting ready for Christmas.

I used regular Project Life core kit cards plus Christmas paper and embellishments from my stash. Love how it turned out. It made the whole process feel much more creative for me - something I had missed in my previous years of doing Project Life.

I've been subscribing to Studio Calico - love their kits - and they've come out with a monthly Project Life kit that coordinates with their main kit. I was able to get their very first kit with January 2013's Block Party. Love the bright colors and fun designs. They also offered a class this month called Day by Day which focused on Project Life, with exclusive printables and Silhouette cut files. It's been very fun. I used the Block Party Project Life kit items with other pieces to create this layout.

Next up, a layout using various cut files from Studio Calico documenting a week of family visiting us over the holidays. Another thing I like about this version of Project Life is that I'm not focused on taking a photo a day - or even seven photos per week. I'm simply documenting our life as it happens, not focused on the time frame. It works so much better for me.

Finally, I created a Christmas Project Life layout using the Winter Wonderland collection from My Mind's Eye.

I'm loving this creative approach to Project Life. It feels creative, yet I'm able to document our life as it happens. So, I've almost finished up the last few weeks of December 2012. On to 2013...thanks for looking!

Featured Posts from MightyCrafty Mondays

Hello all...It's time to see what amazing projects you posted during MightyCrafty Mondays Rounds 28 and 29. I so love seeing your projects each week. Thank you so much to everyone who participated.

Pin-up Party Round 30 is up right now, and it's going to be the last party I'll be hosting for now. We've run these parties for the last 30 weeks (wow!) and have seen so many amazing projects. But over the next few months, I have a full schedule that I need to prioritize, and I think the pin-up party will need to be put on hold until I can give it the attention it deserves. I'll be doing one more feature post next week after Round 30 closes. I want to again say thank you to everyone who has graciously participated in the parties. I so love seeing your projects!

So, with that, let's move on to the featured posts from Round 28.

Linda shared another amazing project with us - her Valentine's Wine Glass and Napkin Ring Set. Such a great project for the upcoming holiday...

Next, Two Everyday Divas shared their Shadow Box Button Art. Love this! I have a huge stash of buttons that I need to use up and this would be perfect for any room...

In Round 29, Jeanette shared a yummy recipe - Spicy Citrus Guacamole. Must make this immediately.

Last up, Midsommarflicka shared a super cute upcycle of an old drawer into a wall shelf...

Thank you everyone for posting your projects. If you were featured, please feel free to grab the badge below and post it on your blog.

December Layouts

For the last few months, I have been scrapbooking a ton. (Anyone getting sick of seeing my layouts yet?) I've been super productive - and it's definitely the designer templates from Kiwi Lane that have sparked my creativity. Since finding them, I've been able to do more layouts than ever.

First up, this sweet layout of my baby boys many years ago (it seems). I know it looks like Jack is scowling at the camera, but really, it was just 150 degrees on this July day in Missouri...

Sweet Summer Boys by MightyCrafty.meThe title is cut from the Silhouette - most everything may have been from a Scrapbook Circle kit but I can't find the link for sure right now. Oh well.

Next, a fun layouts about crazy, silly boys.

These October Afternoon papers and embellishments are vintage but perfect for boys.

This next layout is from a Scrapbook Circle kit as well, I think. Plus those great designer templates from Kiwi Lane, of course.

I also created a couple of cover pages for our Christmas album. Each page will head up the section for that year.

The ornaments and borders are both from Kiwi Lane templates...

I created a few layouts based on one of Shimelle Lane's classes from True Scrap called The Perfect Collection. In the class, Shimelle showed how to cut up a pad of 12x12 paper to create a set of layouts. I used the techniques to create some Christmas pages. Love them...simple but complete.

Lastly, I created a quick layout using a page kit I purchased a few years ago. Love using up my stash.
